Truth or hot air? Do you believe the Heene family really thought their 6-year-old, Falcon, was trapped inside their runaway helium balloon?

Falcon Heene, 6, was found in his family’s attic hours after the world watched a homemade balloon, believed to be carrying the boy, crashed to the ground. It seemed like a fairy-tale ending to a wild tale. But questions arose about what really happened after Thursday's "Larry King Live" when Falcon, upon being asked why he didn't come out of the attic earlier, said, "We did it for a show."

Does Dad have a real job? How do they pay for this goofy hobby?

No doubt they were lying. If I were the father I would have been really curious about that statement.. unless I already knew what he meant.

It's likely the boys dreamed up a stunt and the parents really didn''t know what had happneded.

If it were a stunt, how do they gain? The publicity right now is neutral - but would immediately shift to negative if it were a stunt.

The father's balloon got away and if he called 911 they wouldnt look for just a balloon but a small boy they would look for.

There is no way that balloon could hold any weight over 30 pounds. It's not physically possible! The father would have known that.

Watched the interview on CBC Morning news and the family seemed very genuine. Like someone else said, kid was just being a little mischievous "CUTE" boy!

What a cutie!!! I'm a happy that he is OK!

I hope by "Genuine" you mean "Genuine Liars". These parents are bat sh!t insane, and for someone to not understand this was a hoax at this point is beyond me.

Folks, a mylar balloon the size of a king mattress cannot lift a 6 year old boy to 7000 feet.

Wow- I hope you're never on a jury.

What a hoax. This family loves publicity. The cost of what was thought to be saving the life of a six year old is in excess of $2 Million. There is no way the citizens of Colorado should have to be responsible for this.

        Reply#122 - Fri Oct 16, 2009 1:11 PM EDT

It's pretty obvious it's a publicity stunt. The fact that they named their kid after a bird speaks volumes about the strangeness of this family.

and i thought all the kooks, fruits, and nuts lived only in san francisco!!! here, the whole dang family is crazy!!!!!!

            Reply#124 - Fri Oct 16, 2009 1:14 PM EDT

Perhaps not a hoax, but certainly not good flight practices. Did he not look the balloon over before 'launching' it? Isn't that standard practice when doing anything with an aircraft, experiemental or otherwise? If this guy is the scientist he wants us all to belive him to be, he should have done those things.

No flight check. Incomplete check of the house for the boy. Interview after interview with a child who is either terribly upset or ill. The boy saying that about the show. Going in Wife Swap TWICE. Any one of these things wouldn't be much, but taken all in all...I gotta say, it makes you wonder. And celebrate that I don't live anywhere near this family.

Betcha Bill O'Reilly could take a stick to that kid's hindparts and straighten him into a model citizen!!

Wow! Dad certainly looked very "Hollywood" during his television interview this morning. His entire family was up and speaking on national tv at 5a.m. on the morning following the day when the most horrific tragedy that could befall a family occurred!!!!! I think I'd rather watch "the Girls Next Door", than this crazy fool!!!

The guy's agonies seem staged, his anguish theatrical. He runs the interview show and his wife remains muzzled. And what about the child's vomiting on camera?!

                    Reply#129 - Fri Oct 16, 2009 1:24 PM EDT

Obviously some of you geniuses writing here cannot read or hear. the father called the faa first, as he should have. Then his son told him he saw the 6 year old climb into the balloon. Then he called 911. Is it a stunt, or real? Let the experts investigate and determine.

                      Reply#130 - Fri Oct 16, 2009 1:24 PM EDT

I believe the balloon became untethered accidentally. Then almost right away they discovered the boy was missing. They assumed he was in the balloon. Shortly after calling 911 they found him but continued with the story that he was still in the balloon because of the publicity they were getting.

                        Reply#131 - Fri Oct 16, 2009 1:25 PM EDT

The father seems genuinely upset but whether that was because he may have lost his son or he was upset to have lost his balloon is hard to say. What I would question is his incredible lack of judgement. If he wants to send off balloons or look for ETs, get a job with the government and do it under controlled conditions. Your backyard, with your untrained wife and kids is not appropriate. Why doesn't he take advantage of the beautiful area he lives in and spend time hiking or playing sports with his kids instead of crazy science experiments that have the potential to do real harm to his family and others?

Also, this man should have some counseling. I think he is scary, and I'm an adult. I can just imagine how that 6 year old feels. It is not surprising that the child hid in a place they would not find him. I hope he gets some help so his children can grow up in more normal environment.

IT WOULDN'T FLY. If the balloon was 20' in diameter as was reported and it looked to be at a maximum of 3 feet thick (with the taper probably averaging less) it would hold 942 cubic feet of helium. That would produce a lift of a little over 58 lbs. If you subtract the weight of the craft, I don't believe it could lift the child. When it was starting to deflate, it would have dropped like a rock if by some miracle it ever got off the ground. The designer should know the payload capabilities of their craft.

This and the fact that their story keeps changing, makes it seem to be false.

This whole thing was a hoax and these loons should be made to pay for all the wasted resouirces called out to "rescue""help" in this incident. Otherwise, more crackpots will do this for the publicity and attention.

We need to ignore this kind of crap in the future. These kids need to be taken away from these nuts - permanently. These kids unfortunately are probably already damaged beyond redemption.

Ok I'm really sorry people that you think we are all "jumping to conclusions" and feel the boy was talking about the interview, but you must have your heads in the sand. These people are totally motivated by attention-look at their history-and the poor kid vomited because he is obviously the only one in the family who realizes that what they have done is wrong. Have you SEEN the new video released by the family showin the moments prior to the balloon's launching? Our country is in such financial trouble, and these idiots have just cost the City of Denver and numerous other resources thousands of dollars. Yes we need to have them looking when a child is lost, but clearly, the parents knew this kid was safe. They need to pay for their lack of respect for the system. Send them the bills.

I find it a bit odd the way ppl nowdays have to watch their world go by on a news channel,a twitter, net etc. Running back and forth to peep at everyones problems. the media hyped like hungry mosquitoes to suck it all dry. Have any u of ever imagined that all the hype is not good for the nervous system. Call your mom or someone special and just go hang out in the real world for a change. Did u forget there was the possibilty that a curious 6 year old might have been on the baloon . Were u all disappointed that it had a happy ending and so now u turn looking for a scapegoat to chew up?

When you consider the adults background you wonder! What 6 year old kid would spend two hours plus hiding..............they do not have the tension span! The comment about "a show" sounds like premeditation? If the cops work on the kid's story they should be able to get to bottom of story..........................parents are not credible.

I think the dad is a bit "off" and mom is very submissive. Kids do weird stuff but I know that if it was my 6 yr old- she wouldn't be hiding for that long.If it turns out this was all a hoax? The parents should not only be not only responsible for footing the bill for but also prosecuted for child abuse and endangering the welfare of a minor. It is completely outrageous with this current economy to waste the time and limited resources of local town, state, and federal departments.

I'm sure the producers of "Locked-up" would be more than happy to give him some coverage.
