As for the personal staff, there is plenty of evidence (available online, for FREE) that First Ladies have had both more and less than Michelle Obama. Finally, none of this has anything to do with the work she's trying to achieve by placing focus on childhood obesity. Anymore than Dubya's poor grammatical skills had anything to do with Laura's work toward improving literacy in this country.

You need to check your facts before posting. According to snopes.com Laura Bush has between 24 and 26 staff . Lady Bird Johnson 30, Betty Ford about the same number. So the amount Michelle Obama has in not out of line at all.
As a grandmother raising two grandchildren,I find that I am part of the problem. I am afraid the children will get hurt so I seriously make them afraid to do "normal" things kids do -like riding bicycles,climbing,etc. I am trying to do the things Michele talks about-like feeding them properly and limiting snacks. They do not make the cuts for teams like soccer and basketball because they are not good enough(again, my fault). Maybe these issues could be addressed. I am LISTENING. There are a large number of grandparents out there just like me.
So stop. I respect that you realize what your doing. I also think your being a bit hard on yourself, as the kids need to take responsibility as well.
Kids are resiliant - think back to when you were a kid and the stupid/dangerous things you did. Sure you may have broken an arm or something, but you bounce back. They are kids- they are suppose to go play and get hurt. Just like kids need to fail - and not get trophies for just playing a game.
We are raising a generation of coddled sissies. We need to stop. Children need to learn how it feels to fail - thats how you learn. If you never fail or get hurt etc, you never learn. Kids need that lesson - we all do.

i completely agree with you. biggest problem our country has right now is the lack of responsibility - for ourselves, our children, our lives. government is not the answer - only personal respect and responsibility is. we don't need the government whether it be the democrats, republicans or independents telling us or showing us how to live our daily personal lives. we need less government involvement - not more.

Do you spend 24/7 with you children? What makes you think those organizations aren't involved in your children's development? If you think not, you might ask your kids.
Michelle should have no problem with her 26 aids to do the work. All she has to do is have her hair done, buy a new dress and shoes and make an appearance. All other first ladies had 1 or 2 aids and they did great. Our first lady needs 26 aids which, by the way, make more money than most female Americans. Omama and Michelle claim they feel our pain - no jobs - less money from employers - more work due to layoffs, etc etc.

Exercising daily will produce much needed endorphins for better health and well-being! The First Lady has definitely zeroed in on a very important area of concern for children and adults in our nation! Maybe students will have less stress in their lives as a result of exercising more and eating more nutritious foods.
Michelle Obama has already made an impression on the young people with having children in the White House so she can definitely can help the cause. Her daughters are within normal weight and showing that she( Mrs. Obama) is helping them make good choices.
I agree with you Pauline, Mrs. Obama is a fantastic role model for this country and our children. Those who criticize her have their facts wrong, obviously they really haven't paid attention to solid evidence but rather to gossip that has absolutely no place in this serious issue. Maybe they need to ask their kids how they feel about being obese, having high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and other serious health problems at age 13! Of course its entirely possible, they don't have children and really don't care about anyone else's problems but their own!
President and Mrs. Obama are great role models of what family life and good health are all about. Good choices of healthy food, walking the dog with the kids, white house garden, playing basket ball, using the gymn are all good examples. I congratulate them both for being examples of what my parents were. We had disapline, lots of love, someone to answer any questions we had truthfully, schools that provided healthy meals paid for by our parents who furnished great health meals at home. Recess periods at school provided new friends, a great relief of stress and the gymn classes provided great strong bodies at all ages.
I think she needs to take a look at her lifestyle and say a prayer of thanks for the blessings of God that she is an American. Then she should fire 20 of her handlers/servants and actually do something solid and good for her children and other children in D.C...namely return the school choice initiative back to the way it was so that "non-elite, unrich" children can go to better and safer schools as do the Obama children. Fair is fair, but not always equal, is it?

PE and Gym time are mostly ignored at school by both students and teachers. Accept for those who are interested in physical activities.Not all public schools have a structured excercise program....if only PE teachers could add fun to it as well, It would be great. I hope Michelle does something about that.

The Oboma's came to the White House when the economy was already in the tank and two wars going on at the same time, give them time there trying to fix them MESS George Bush left us in! it no there fault that the economy did a nose dive, he's trying to fix it and no matter if your a Demacrat or Republican President they would have done the same thing. Like him or not he's still our President for the next 3 years, why not stop complaining about what he done or not done get involve, and start at the process and try to make changes at the local level start with grass roots groups and start there to make the difference you want, your noot going to change the White House so start some where where you can make a difference.

Anyone who has travelled abroad will tell you how much America's image has improved. All the whiners know how to do is whine. Where are the suggestions for how to get insurance to the people who have lost everything due to lack of insurance. I am so thrilled about the first lady taking up this issue. As a mom and a nurse, it is one that I would very much like to see real changes made for kids to be healthier physically. It is going to be hard, there are many large institutions supporting kids being obese. The biggest one is the food industry itself. Why are lower calorie foods ALWAYS more expensive than higher calorie foods? I am working on my level to make changes for my family and the children I am around. Go Michele Obama! No one will be a better leader than you on this.
I believe that we finally have a President and First Lady that care about this nation. I support Michele Obama with her issue and any others she plans to take on in the future.

It is up to the parents to place a balanced meal before their family. It is up to the parents to see their children have an active schedule daily. I raised three sons and made sure they had well balanced meals and plenty of exercise. Sure, their is game time on their Xbox or PC, but I made sure they had outdoor time daily also. I encouraged my three sons to play sports at school and Little League and swimming in the summer months. All of this is the parents responsibility, not the schools or the governments. The government controls way too much in the American life already. Parents have to make time for their children.
